Target audience
Anyone working at an airport and exposed to manual handling: baggage handlers, ramp agents, baggage sorting or cargo agents, check-in agents, equipment drivers and team leaders.
Objectives
- Understand how a musculoskeletal disorder develops and its warning signs
- Know the employer's and employee's obligations and the applicable weight reference values
- Analyse a handling situation before acting: weight, path, heights, environment and traffic
- Apply the four lifting principles to loads handled at the station
- Adjust one's workstation and choose the right handling aid in the hold, sorting area, check-in desk and on equipment
- Know the rules for two-person lifts and teamwork under time pressure
- Know warm-up and recovery practices over a shift
- React at the first signs of pain and know who to contact
